Water bottle
We train hard for 2 hours at a go, and it's imperative you keep well
hydrated otherwise you'll wake up with a headache the next day. |

Bokken, Jo and Tanto
The teaching and training of aikido is often aided by the use of
wooden weapons - a bokken (sword), Jo (staff) and tanto (dagger). There
are often plenty to share around, but once you've been training for a
while you may wish to get your own. |

 |
Gi
This is the training suit. If you're just coming along to give aikido
a go then simply wear a long-sleeved top and a pair of loose-fitting
trousers - a Gi will be worth investing in if you start to take training
more seriously. See here for local
stockists. |

Personal Hygiene
We do get rather sweaty - as it's at the end of a working day for many of us
- and often get very close to one another. |
|
 |
Sandals
Useful for getting from the changing rooms to the dojo. |

 |
Pen and Paper
The moves, techniques, throws and 'pins' that we practice all use Japanese
names - you may want to write a few things down at the end of the
session... |
